Beyond The Big Two: Government Corruption? Who Would Have Guessed

Comics are calling for blood. This week’s popular indie comics-of-choice are packed with calls for anarchy, “smashing the patriarchy” and societal corruptions galore. Before we go into the beyond the big two picks of the week, let me give a special shout-out to the following comics. Valiant is dropping a new Shadowman comic this week. The Shadowman #1 will be a long awaited return for Jack Boniface as he travels back to New Orleans to fight against new evils bumping around at night. Image will also bring back another of its classic series, Cyber Force #1 written by Cyber Force creator Mark Silvestri. Silvestri re-imagines the Cyber Force universe with his new story about a man named Morgan whose body is altered by technology after suffering a fatal wound from a terrorist attack. If both are anything like their proceeding runs, they should be highly anticipated new starts for their respective series. Now let’s go beyond the big two and see what’s new.

Tinseltown #1 - Alterna Comics

Writer David Lucarelli and artist Henry Ponciano bring us back to 1915, Hollywood. Abigail Moore is the first female police in her precinct, taking on the corruption that hides itself behind a facade of glamour. It looks like it will be an interesting investigative mystery; with assuming that corporate greed, misogyny, and inexperience playing out against our main character.

Breathless #1 - Black Mask Studios

From writer Pat Shand and artist Renzo Rodriguez comes a story about Hack Slashing your way through corporate greed. Instead of slashers, vampires or zombies, cryptozoologist Scout Turner is fighting against the literal monsters created by big pharma. After discovering the cure for asthma in the venom from a monster she examined, creatures and corporate henchmen come after Scout. She may have the help of her clueless assistant, a succubus and her geriatric dog, but will she be able to hold her own against a world run by drugs and money? I don't know, but right off the bat the preview had me loving Scout already.

Billionaire Killers #1 - Black Mask Studios

Black Mask co-founder and Young Terrorist writer Matteo Pizzolo, and beloved artist Soo Lee radicalize the children of the .0001%. In a world where too many big businessmen are political players, two heiress, Sera and Pru, find that their rich fathers are part of a much bigger problem. These corporate fat-cats orchestrate an international crime ring, and their children no longer want any part of it. Its a tale of children having to fight the ones they love, while trying to set the world right before more die by the hands of the legacies they are to inherit.
