As February clings on to it’s last days, tomorrow gifts us with not only decent weather in New York, but the release of a handful of issue ones and new titles. Along with the The Terrifics #1 from DC and Lockjaw #1 from Marvel, here are some other comics I’m looking forward to picking up. So let’s take a look beyond the big two and see what’s new.

Wilds #1

Wilds #1 is brought to us by punk publisher Black Mask Comics. The comic revolves around a very Last of Us-esque world where a plague has ravaged America and now the survivors live in city-state communities. Only a select few called Runners travel outside of it’s walls, making drop-offs between communities and scavenging ruins of the Old World. Daisy, an experienced Runner, usually isn’t fazed by much until the disappearance of her lover Heather leads her on a desperate search. One reason to be excited about this series is for the writer, new DC Talent Vita Ayala. It’s exciting to see Ayala take up a new series and continue with projects outside of DC comic. The coloring done by Marissa Louise is breathtaking and the character design by Emily Pearson is unique. After reading the preview I only have one qualm with it; some of the drawn action sequences lack fluidity, but the story does looks promising enough for me to read.

Alisik Fall #1

Titan Comics releases a very Tim Burton-style comic called Alisik Fall #1 this week. It was created by a novice comic team composed of Hubertus Rufledt and Helge Vogt, two former Disney Italy employees. Alisik wakes up terrified in a cemetery, believing she is only living a nightmare. Unfortunately, reality strikes her when no one can see her. She truly is dead and stuck in limbo. With the loss of her memories she struggles to grasp how she died and now must unravel the mysteries surrounding her afterlife. The art-style is truly unique to the comic book world as it brings to life a Gothic Lolita aesthetic that you probably wouldn’t see in other comic.
